Meet Our Expert Instructors

Get to know our instructors, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience. Their diverse backgrounds and qualifications ensure that you’re learning from the best.

Chief Instructor Jacob Patrick is a former U.S. Navy F/A-18E/F Super Hornet instructor with 15+ years of civilian flight instruction experience across more than 100 aircraft types, including S-211, amphibious, seaplanes, business jets, general, and specialized mission aircraft. In addition to his instructional background, he serves as a fire attack pilot flying the AT-802F Fire Boss and is a federally certified National Aerial Firefighting Academy (NAFA) instructor.

Assist. Chief Instructor Samuel Ragland is a highly motivated aviation professional and charter pilot with more than 1,600 hours of flight time, including turbine, multi-engine, international, and Part 135 operating experience. He currently serves as a Charter PIC on the Beechcraft Baron BE-58 and as SIC on the Cessna Citation 550 SII, bringing extensive real-world operational insight to his instructional role.

Assist. Chief Instructor Andrew Lubben is a flight instructor with over 800 hours of dual instruction provided, supporting private and instrument training. He provides instruction in both English and Spanish and emphasizes instrument proficiency, aeronautical decision-making, and disciplined cockpit management to help pilots develop confidence and strong flying skills.

Lt. Heather Penny — Instructor Heather Penny brings extensive operational experience to ACE, supporting single/multi-engine, & advanced flight training. She emphasizes ADM, situational awareness, & disciplined cockpit management. Drawing from high-stakes operations, she helps pilots build confidence, judgment, & professionalism. Her teaching style bridges technical skill with real-world application, preparing students to operate safely, think critically & perform effectively in complex environments. ATP CFII CFI MEI

Instructor Andrew Gordon brings a disciplined, systems-based approach to flight training. With years of experience in general aviation maintenance and aircraft oversight, he emphasizes structured training, checklist discipline, and sound aeronautical decision-making. As founder of ACE Flight Solutions Aircraft Maintenance and co-founder of ACE Flight Academy, Andrew combines deep aircraft systems knowledge with a mentorship-first teaching style.

Eva Perkins is a CFI/CFII who's been working with ACE Flight Academy for about a year. She's worked in several single engine airplanes, both high and low wing aircraft. She has a flexible schedule and can meet the varying needs of students, with a willingness to meet students where they are and help them gain a deeper understanding of aviation and proper procedures.

At Ace Flight Academy, we teach at the student’s pace, not a predefined timeline. Our students become fully proficient pilots who are prepared to think and handle scenarios within the ratings they have achieved.
